A Broken Babys’ Neck In Perilous Time
The Yorubas will say “àgbà kìí wa lôjà, ki ori omo tuntun o wó”, meaning (a baby’s neck not properly placed, cannot be left unadjusted when we have elders in the market). Is this adage still true? So many children (teenagers & youth) nowadays already developed stiff neck (rebellion) because the elders have concentrated on something else and refused to act.
Mothers meant to protect, guide and train their children have been occupied with business matters, social group parties and even go to the extent of borrowing money to buy things they do not need, eventually to impress people they do not even know. Leading them to frustration and sometimes depression.
Fathers who are supposed to use iron hand on disobedient & wayward children, only threatens denial of basic needs of such child. The baby’s neck had fallen, and it will only take grace to get it restored. Religious societies are trying their best but still we need the elders, I mean the knowledgeable elders. Our elders should wake up from slumber, this is the time to act, you are not old-school, your values are incomparable and very much valuable.
The upcoming teenagers have become so stubborn, rebellious and unyielding, their quest for money, power and wealth at tender age is unbearably disheartening and this had catapulted the recurring cases of kidnapping, ritual killings, runz girls, harlotry, yahoo-yahoo and other vices predominant in Africa. These upcoming generation are referred to as the leaders of tomorrow. The scripture says, “train up a child the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it”.
It is with a heavy heart I appeal to all our elderly ones in Nigeria and in Africa. Teach your children & grand-children morality, teach them humility, teach them contentment, teach them some frugality, let them know that there is no short-cut to success (if there is any, it should be legal) and let them understand the importance of time factor in achieving life goals.
I believe if all our upcoming leaders are opportune to have someone who can discipline and enlighten them this way, we should not have embezzlement, fraud, extortion, bribery, money laundering and drug trafficking dominating our economy as a nation anymore. Please reach out to every lads and lasses in your neighborhood and educate them on the importance of time-factor & hard work in achieving good success.
